About Pastor Dotson
Greg Dotson is the pastor of Community of Believers Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi. He was born in Memphis to Joe and Yvonne Dotson.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Memphis and his Master of Christian Studies degree from Union University. He attained his certification as an instructor for the Evangelical Bible Institute, and he is a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Pastor Dotson is happily married to Chundra Dotson, who is an Educational Interventionist with Shelby County Schools. Married on September 7, 1996, they have three wonderful children: Chatoria, Greg and Cayla.
Pastor Greg accepted his called to the ministry in June of 1998, and served as an associate minister and lay pastor at Cummings Street Missionary Baptist Church (CSMBC) under the leadership of Pastor Gary Faulkner. During his tenure at CSMBC, he served in several ministries including the deacon ministry, male chorus, marriage ministry, Christian education, New Members’ Ministry and the Memphis Evangelical Bible Institute.
After serving faithfully at CSMBC for 17 years, the Lord led Pastor Dotson to launch Community of Believers in his home on Sunday, January 6, 2008.
On February 10, 2008, God allowed the church to begin worshipping in the place that COBBC now resides – 7395 Stateline Road, Olive Branch, Mississippi 38654.
Pastor Dotson’s Vision
Pastor’s vision for COBBC is to become a beacon of God’s light in its surrounding community and throughout the world by meeting the physical and spiritual needs of those who come across our path.
In being this beacon, the world will look to COBBC as a special place where they can receive both a Word and a touch from God.
Pastor Dotson’s Desire for the Body of Christ
Pastor Greg desperately longs to see souls saved believers become serious followers of Jesus Christ. To accomplish this, he is committed to teaching and preaching the whole counsel of God, as well as building and equipping leaders to win souls for Christ both in the Mid-South area and throughout the world.
Pastor Dotson’s Guiding Scriptures
One of Pastor Dotson’s favorite passages is found in Galatians 2:20 where it says, “ I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (NIV). This reminds him that whatever good comes from his effort here on earth, it’s all because of the Christ that lives in Him.
Another passage that Pastor Dotson relies on often is I Thessalonians 5:24 where it reads, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” (NIV). This passage continuously reassures him that God is in control, and He will complete and perfect that concerning him.
Why Community of Believers
So, if you’re looking for a perfect church, full of people who seem to have it all together, and rules and rituals that must be followed, then Community of Believers might not be the church for you.
However, if you’re looking for a church where relationship trumps religion and a place full of imperfect people doing their best to serve their perfect yet gracious Savior Jesus Christ, then this is the place for you!
